Camp Meeting 2017: Overview from Tuesday, July 25

There are certain things that can be nearly impossible to describe after the fact in blog posts such as these. The grandeur of the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls come to mind. They need to be seen in person to get a full appreciation and maximum impact.

Such was the case with the Tuesday night service at the 2017 Camp Meeting. Musical ministry from the team of Rev. Ryan Brosious and his wife, Amanda, was spot-on, and the main message from Rev. Stephen Wilson had a profound impact throughout the worship center.

The message was on disappointment and discouragement, following the story of Paul, Silas and Timothy found in Acts 15:36 through Acts 16:10. The main part of the message came from Acts 16:6-7. It is a part of the scripture where the three attempted to share God’s message in Asia, Mysia and Bithynia but were not allowed to via the Holy Spirit. Discussion involved some of the disappointment the three must have been experiencing during those “setbacks” but how it led to an important ministry opportunity in Macedonia.

When it comes to disappointment, Rev. Wilson suggested via this scripture five points to consider. We shouldn’t take disappointment personally, we don’t have to understand the unexpected change in plan, we shouldn’t confuse being stopped by God with being steered by God to something more suitable to His bigger plan, we can’t forget what is at stake and we should not be discouraged by disappointment.

This message came together with great supporting object lessons, including an emotional, open discussion from Rev. Wilson about his own personal struggles, disappointments and realizations. It was something best experienced in person … and is another example of why people should take time to stop in for these services. Rev. Wilson and Rev. Brosious team up again tonight at 7 p.m. for another impactful service.

Throughout the day at camp, there was plenty to do for all ages. The kids shared a time of song, games, crafts and Bible study – and they took time to create cool new tye dye T-shirts. The teens shared their own devotional time and enjoyed a variety of activities together, including a water balloon launching experience, night swim and volleyball. The adults enjoyed time of lessons with Rev. Tim Moore in the morning, fellowship throughout the day and the evening service. The lake was active with fishing, kayaking and hiking.
