Heritage weekend 2017 a time of worship, fellowship and fundraising

There were numerous ways to measure the success of the 2017 Heritage Weekend festivities at the Central PA Wesleyan Campground near New Columbia.

The attendance, the growing list of activities, the large smorgasbord of donated silent auction items, the fear conquered via a family kayaking adventure, the big smile on one young lady’s face as she reeled in a nice-sized largemouth bass, the harmonious melody of a hymn sing, the sound of arrow meeting cardboard target via archery, gourmet goodies via the annual banquet, laughs and overlapping conversations during the banquet and an inspirational story shared by a newly ordained minister and his young wife.

Those were just a few of the many successful sights, sounds, tastes and other senses engaged at this year’s heritage experience.

Want another? More than $1,200 was raised during the event … and with an additional donation, enough was collected to fund the second heating/air conditioning unit at the newly refurbished Pickett Hall.

It began with a hymn sing and ice cream social on the final Friday night of September. The next morning, a tasty pancake and sausage breakfast was offered. Organized afternoon activities included kayaking, archery and a fishing derby with prizes (including a new fishing rod and well-stocked tackle box) and worms generously donated by Wiggly Worm near Middleburg.

The evening catered banquet included a great spread of delicious food, including chicken cordon bleu and cheesecake.

After an inspirational keynote talk from the Rev. Ken Davis and his wife, Melissa, tickets were drawn for more than 100 donated items ranging from crafts and toys to gift certificates and household items.

All in all, it was a successful event in so many ways. Glory be to God for His provisions.
